UPDATE to bunker tours noted in chapter 17 of guidebook:
In January 2017 the group of volunteers that is restoring WWII bunkers near Ravenna renamed itself “Bunker Tour Ravenna (CRB 360° - R.A.F.)”
This group, along with similiar associations, has made an inventory of area WWII bunkers and other defensive structures. The group posts news about this significant historical project (in Italian) on its social media page. You can send questions (in English or Italian) to the group via that page.
A goal is to have these historic structures serve as an open-air museum that would attract visitors to the Adriatic coast throughout the year. With appropriate publicity, the bunkers will draw people interested in touring some of Italy's well-preserved WWII sites.
The nearby village of Punta Marina Terme alone has seven restored bunkers; please see photos below. The group's plans for the future include:
Restoring and/or maintaining WWII bunkers in more coastal communities
Creating footpaths between the bunkers in each community
Providing maps and brochures
Enabling guides to lead tours of these structures.
